How to check and understand your test report

02.09.24

A test report is a detailed document that summarizes the tests performed on representative sample materials, the test methods applied and the final test results. It is the basis for the issuance of a product certificate, and it may also include recommendations for improving failed products.

Lab test report

A test report can be issued by any of the OEKO-TEX® member laboratory institutes. They are ISO 17025 accredited which proves that their laboratory have an acceptable quality management system in place and have the ability and competence to provide testing and calibration results. The lab which has performed the analysis issues the corresponding test report. 3rd party lab test reports, i.e. outside of the OEKO-TEX® Association, are not accepted.

What can be tested?

  • Single or composite components / raw materials (e.g. yarns, buttons, fabrics, sewing threads, foams, leather etc.)
  • Ready-made articles (e.g. t-shirts, bed sheets, pillows, shoes etc.)
  • Processing steps (e.g. dyeing, printing, laminating, coating, etc.)
  • Chemicals / colourants (e.g. dyestuffs, printing pastes, water-repellent agents, etc.)
What information can be found in a test report?

The test report number is always indicated in each OEKO-TEX® product certificate. It is traceable and valid for the duration of the certificate’s one-year validity. For documentation purposes the test report is submitted to the certificate holder together with the issued certificate.
